What I Wore – March 28 2013

I did some shopping.  To my two favorite stores of course.  I came home with a lot of pink.  It was good.

So obviously I wanted to wear some of my new purchases to work as soon as I got them home.  And before I knew it I was wearing J Crew Factory and Joe Fresh head to toe.  That will happen.

Now I have my eyes on a pair of lavendar jeans…

OOTD!

So, I bought this vintage blazer.  I have always loved the boucle style (reminds me of Chanel) but I have struggled and struggled to find a way to wear it.  So when I saw the jacket I knew I had to buy it and find a way to wear it.  A year and a half later, I’m finally starting to see this style pop up and have been inspired to find a way to wear it.  Hence below:

I threw it on over my favorite J Crew Factory sweater and I was pretty satisfied.  Definitely something I can wear to work indeed.

What I Wore March 21 2013

I know! I have been a bad blogger this week and haven’t posted anything in so long!  I actually took some pictures of what I wore on my birthday but because it was such a busy weekend, I am just getting around to posting that now (juuuuust 5 days after my actual birthday – WOOOPS!).  Anyways, on my birthday, Edmonton had a HUGE snowstorm, so big that there was a crazy accident on one of our major highways – so bad that it made CNN news.  So, since I was scheduled to work on the north side of Edmonton that day (I live south side) I decided that it might be a good idea to go to West Edmonton Mall first.  MISTAKE!!  I did make it alive and safe but while I was there I learned that we got to have the day off due to unsafe road conditions.  Sooooo, I got to have my birthday off work and I had a leisurely time at West Edmonton Mall (which by the way was not busy due to the weather (I got VIP parking and that NEVER happens), AND I made it home safe and sound.  Although, I was getting passed by baba’s on the whitemud – indication, slowest driver in Edmonton that day.  Anyways, this is what I wore since I was planning on going to work and trudging through 3 feet of snow.  The dress and necklace are from the J Crew Factory store, the tights are from Joe Fresh, and the boots are ancient from Browns.

As you can see – I elected to wear my boots that day, because nothing ruins an outfit faster than a pair of Ugg or rubber boots.  Happy Birthday to me!

Fantastic Free Printables

So as I was meandering around the internet today looking for free printables that would be suitable for my wedding, I found this printable from How Joyful.com.  And How Joyful indeed!   This is a lovely printable in an assortment of colors with a lovely saying  “Do what you love and do it often”.  I will be printing this as soon as I get home today.  Just lovely.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

Homemade Vegan Oatmeal

This morning I made a delightful little treat for breakfast – OATMEAL!  But the best part was… it was completely VEGAN!! WOOP WOOP

Now, I do not claim to be a full vegan BUT I am against the torture of animals just so that we can eat.  I am well aware that animals have to die in order for us to eat meat, but I cannot handle knowing that those animals were tortured from the moment they were born.  I love cheese and ground beef – two things that I would have a really hard time giving up if I went full vegan, so you can see how this is a challenge for me – so my version is a little different.  I have stopped eating all meat during the week with treating myself to a meat product on the weekend.  But since my trophy husband is a bad ass hunter, a lot of our ground beef is actually organic ground elk/moose that he harvested himself.  Therefore I know that the animals that we eat have had a fantastic life in the wild, that it was locally produced and as organic/free range as you can get. The only dairy that we consume now is locally produced yogurt and cheese (substituting oat milk for regular milk – oat milk has the most protein out of all the milk replacements).  Now we have to work on finding ourselves a local chicken/egg producer (my man loves his chicken) and we will be golden!

Anyways – more about my delightful Vegan Oatmeal.

1 cup Oatmilk, 1/2 cup organic rolled oats, 1 gala apple, brown sugar and cinnamon to taste

Heat the oatmilk in a small pot on medium heat until bowling, then add the oats and cinnamon.  Simmer for about 7 minutes and while simmering, cut up apple and add to the oatmeal.   Once fully cooked, serve, topped with brown sugar and fresh apple chunks.

How easy is that?? So easy and 100% vegan.  Enjoy!

Sweet Potato Delight

So, I discovered something yesterday.  When we run out of groceries in my house, I get crafty.  Yesterday I was going to a noon Moksha yoga class, and I have to eat otherwise I get dizzy.  So, while I was looking to make my usual breakfast, I noticed that we had peanut butter, but no bread.  Protein powder but no oat milk, nor coconut milk, nor even regular milk.  But I did have a couple of sweet potatoes.  Any other day I would have never even considered having sweet potatoes for breakfast (ok, it was like 11:00 – so closer to brunch), BUT on this day when it was either plain fried eggs or sweet potato fries, I decided to make it happen!

How good do these look?

How good do these look?

All I did was cut my sweet potato into fries, lightly drizzled with olive oil and salt and baked them at 400 for about 30 minutes.  They were pretty darn good for something I just whipped up (and let’s not forget that I am not the best at cooking – the other day I burnt the rice again).  Easy Peasy and Delicious.
