Every year I try to make my mans birthday a bit special by making him a super awesome cake. The first year it was a deer and every year I manage to get creative enough to make something new. Last year I made him a cake in the shape of our cat. This year I decided to do something a bit different. I saw a pin on Pinterest for camouflage cupcakes. So that’s what I decided to do this year. And they turned out AWESOME!
I started out with a simple white cake recipe (thanks Martha!). I then divided the batter into 3 different bowls. I added a different color to each bowl (in this case – brown, leaf green and juniper green). Then each cupcake cup got a couple of spoonfuls of each color.
Then I baked those puppies.
They were pretty good just like this but I decided to go-ahead and try to make the frosting camo as well. And I will say – turned out pretty good I do believe.
I again made a simple butter cream icing and divided into 3 bowls – adding the same 3 colors. Then I put a blob of each into the piping bag to create a blended icing look.
How cool are these?!?!?! And they tasted great too!
I think these would be super fun in any color combination – pinks or blues for kids’ birthday parties, bright colors for summer, red and white for Christmas!
Sorry party people – I have been a bad blogger lately! And it doesn’t even help that I am posting about an outfit that I wore over two weeks ago already!
Anyways… I found an amazing cashmere sweater at the J Crew Factory store in South Edmonton Common at the beginning of May – too amazing of a deal to pass up – It was regularly $178.00 and I found it in the clearance section priced at $89.99 – which I got 50% off. Yes, I paid $45.00 for a cashmere cardigan. I also decided to bust out my newly arrived wedding shoes to break them in a bit – and I didn’t want to take them off.
Gingham Button Up: Joe Fresh, Cashmere Cardigan: J Crew Factory, Shoes: Michael Kors,
Yes, I bought and wore cashmere on some of the hottest days of the year so far – but I don’t care because I looked fabulous!
Hands down my favorite trend for spring 2013 is Neon. By adding a pop of neon to an otherwize boring look, I not only get to participate in my favorite spring trend, but I also add some interest and bring new life to my go-to looks.

Necklace: J Crew Factory, Bird Feeder: My mom
Black and white… BORING! But I added my fantastic new Michael Kors bag and the look gets a whole lot better!
I think this bag is the ultimate in spring accessories – I can’t get enough of it! It was very thoughtfully gifted to my by my soon to be trophy husband – what a good man – they know how to keep us girls happy.
Winter in Edmonton can be long and cold. So as a result, my legs haven hibernating for the past 8 months. You know what that means! Blinding white legs start appearing right around mid May. This happened to me. Today.
Dress: Joe Fresh, Blazer: Aritzia, Watch: Michael Kors, Necklace: Joe Fresh
Wow. My poor legs feel so naked without any tights or hose to keep them warm and appropriately covered. But at least now they are in their natural element. I got the dress from Joe Fresh like 5 years ago and I love that it is a timeless number. Add a blazer and now I can wear it to work. Sweet!
Today I decided to wear a few things from the relics of my closet. I found myself looking for outfit inspiration in my closet but found it in a couple of oldies. Check it.
Blazer: thrifted, Floral Top: Joe Fresh, Pants: H&M, Shoes: The Bay, Necklace: J Crew Factory
I am so in love with this top. I have had it for like 4 years and I found it in the Joe Fresh pyjama/undergarment section. I added a thrifted blazer and my go-to skinny pants to keep me work appropriate. And I’m so happy I get to wear these fantastic lavender heels again now that the snow is gone and most of the winter grime has been cleaned.
This right here is why I love spring.
Our spring has been taking its sweet time coming around this year. It’s officially may 1st and there was a thin layer of fresh snow on the ground and temperatures below 0 when I got up this morning. Bad news. All over Instagram I see people’s lovely spring pictures of summery clothes and bright flowers and sunshine. I’m a little jealous. Actually, more like a lot jealous. So when I get dressed for work these days, I am still drawn to the fall looks courtesy of my need to cover up due to low temperatures. But today I said NO! Today I gave the proverbial middle finger to the weather and I wore my white pants and a flowy top (that has butterflies on it In spite of the fact that I haven’t seen a butterfly in real life for about 7 months).
White pants: H&M, top: found in a boutique
Looking pretty good! But I’m not going to lie to you, I am currently wearing a sweater over top to keep myself from freezing. Of course.
