Valentines Day – Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies

Valentines Day is fast approaching and to celebrate I made these amazing Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies by Cooking Classy.  I stumbled upon this recipe on Pinterest of course, and knew I had to give it a go.






Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies


3 cups flour

1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

2 tsp baking powder

1/4 tsp baking soda

3/4 tsp salt

3/4 cup unsalted butter

1 1/3 cup granulated sugar

3 large eggs

1 tbsp milk

1 1/2 tsp vanilla

2 tsp lemon juice

5 tsp red food colouring

1 cup white chocolate chips

1 cup powdered sugar

In a mixing bowl whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda and salt  until combined.  In the mix master bowl, whip granulated sugar and butter until fluffy, a few minutes.  Mix in 1 egg at a time, making sure each egg is well combined before adding the next.  Add milk, vanilla, lemon juice and food colouring. Slowly add in the dry mixture and mix on low speed until combined. Add the white chocolate chips.  Cover bowl with plastic and chill for 2 hours until firm.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.  Put powdered sugar into a bowl.  Butter your hands because this part is messy.  Scoop dough and roll into balls.  Then roll the balls in the powdered sugar – making sure to get a good amount on them.  Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and squish them down a bit.  Bake for about 12-14 minutes, depending on your oven.  Let cool on the baking sheet then cool completely on a cooling rack.

And enjoy!

These are especially good with a cup of coffee or hot cocoa.
